MICEport – “Meet the DMC” Series

Meet the DMC StampsAs part of MICEport’s continuing expansion, we have started a webinar series called “Meet the DMC“.

The goals of the webinars are:

  1. Create a personal touch –  So often, it is difficult to physically meet with the respected DMCs such as those within MICEport DMC due to the fact that they are in the 10 destinations throughout the world – this is a way to combat that;
  2. Quick – A quick 30 minute webinar presentation on the DMC and the overall possibilities of that particular destination;
  3. Convenient – MICEport has added these webinars to our website for “on-demand” convenience;
  4. Informative & Innovative – Our DMCs give great information about the destination while at the same time introducing buyers to new program ideas.

These webinars are an ideal way to Meet the DMCs and get to know your potential partner in Ireland, Scotland, France, Monaco, Italy, Germany, Austria, UAE, Oman and Morocco.  MICEport DMCs have on average 26 years in business and are all owner operated. We are proud to be their partner in North America and we know that their experience and creativity will be a winning combination for any incentive or meeting program.

All of the webinars will be posted on www.miceportdmc.com under the events and webinar section and also on this Blog.

You can contact MICEport in North America, either via phone (215-253-8924) email: inspireus@miceport.com or on the web at www.miceportdmc.com

ITALY: A Unique Restaurant Experience for Groups

Italy is all about history, exquisite, unique and authentic experiences, love and food! Well experience all this and more with MICEport DMC partner in Italy, Studio ITER. As an example of this, North American groups can visit a very special and unique Roman restaurant in the stunning 1 star Michelin restaurant, AROMA.

AROMA is located within the premises of the enchanting Manfredi Palace (Palazzo Manfredi) where Chef Giuseppe Di Iorio brings his modern cuisine, choosing the freshest ingredients while keeping an eye on tradition.

AROMA has a contemporary dining room overlooking the Colosseum and Emperor Nero’s Gardens and is quite simply a magical rooftop garden restaurant.  Before dinner, guests can enjoy a cocktail on the lounge bar terrace overlooking the Colle Oppio (Emperor Nero’s gardens).  The stylish decor is welcoming and relaxing, whilst the glass observatory offers an all-year round dining experience, perfect for North American incentives and meetings.

Tuesday Tech Day: “Would you like to pay to watch the movie on this flight? – No thanks!”

I know that I may sound like a complaining traveler but I promise I am not…However, it does bother me to pay for headphones or to watch movies on a flight.

Well, we think that we have found a solution, “Griffin SkyView Travel Seat-Back Mount”! We all travel with tablets or iphones etc and sometimes we don’t always get upgraded or our boss won’t fly us in business (he, he).

The Griffin SkyView Travel Seat-Back Mount may be the answer – Amazon has this for sale for $23.99 and we think that it’s well worth it!

This is how it works:

  1. The basic clip snaps onto your mobile device;.
  2. Attach your device to the latch on most airplane/train seat-back tray tables;
  3. Then read your book and look at your movies.

Enjoy!

Tuesday Tech Day – Brookstone’s Mobile Pocket Projector

I love technology and one of the things that I have recently started to use is this Brookstone Projector.  The projector is great for presentations and even showing some movies or promotional materials at events.

  • Projects bright, sharp images up to 80″ diagonal,Accepts 1080p and 1080i video input,
  • Rechargeable and portable,
  • Connects via HDMI cable to most smartphones, tablets, computers, video players, cameras,
  • 2 hours on a single charge,
  • Dual built-in speakers and focus control,
  • Rechargeable battery doubles as a USB backup battery for your smartphone devices,
  • Includes HDMI cable, Micro HDMI adapter, Mini HDMI adapter and AC adapter.

BrookstoneI would really suggest to get the tripod and the adapter so that you can put it straight on the desk and connect to your ipad, iphone, PC etc. It is definitely worth the money. Here are some more details. The cost of the projector is $299 but I am sure that they have some specials from time to time. For more information click this link HDMI Pocket Projector

Germany: Berlin – Trabi Safari

Berlin is a city that has changed so much over the past 20 years and offers great and unique experiences to North American MICE groups. For those of you who may be U2 fan’s, you may remember that U2 used the Trabant (or Trabi) for their ZOO TV tour, where they lit the stage with old Trabi cars!

Trabi Safari

Well you can bring that excitment to your clients and employees with MICEport’s DMC in Germany, Team Seefried, who are part of MICEport’s DMC Passport. The Trabi Safari is a great option for MICE groups, offering North American participants a truly unforgettable experience and a piece of history. One of the great tours is the “Wild East”.

After a short briefing concerning the “secrets” of the “four-gear manual change” you can start: open the petrol cock, pull the choke, start the car, shift to the low gear, let off the break, push the gas pedal – off you go. With 26 horsepower you chug along the streets in your trabi convoy. The guide usually sits in the lead car and tells you interesting and curious things about yesterday and today throughout the whole trip. You will hear to the guide via radio in every Trabi without headphones just over the loudspeakers of the radio. Your participants will get to know the city from a totally different point of view – TRUST ME!

After graduating from your adventure and having gained new knowledge about how to drive a Trabi, every first driver of the Trabi gets his/her own “Trabi-driving licence”.

The “Wild East” tour is about an hour and your participants will discover the insider tour for everyone who wants to see Berlin off the tourist-beaten path. The tour takes you almost entirely through the former East part of the city. Driving along the East Side Gallery – the longest piece of the wall remaining – then further through Karl-Marx-Allee will take you back to the days of planned economy and real-life socialism. Experience up close and in person the history of the divided city and its way to the future.

Ben Franklin – Think Differently?

franklin

MICEport’s offices are just 30 minutes from Philadelphia and I thought it was a great time to reflect on some of Ben Franklin’s quotes.  They are still meaningful to our industry and many other industries today.

“If everyone is thinking alike, then no one is thinking.” – Ben Franklin

One of the things that we try to instill within MICEport is to think differently about international Meetings and Incentives from North America.  We are constantly looking at new ways to be able to show how international incentives and meetings are an essential part of business.  The greatest thing that we can do is to travel and learn from different cultures.

Although MICEport has only been in business two years, we have been so fortunate to have some fantastic DMCs that we represent in North America from Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Austria, Spain and Italy.  These DMCs have on average been in business over 15 years and I have been struck by how creative and how they push themselves to find new and innovative programs for meetings and incentives in their respective regions. If they stayed the same and pushed out the same programs year after year, why would anyone be a return customer?

“When you are finished changing, you’re finished.”

I think that this is a great quote – after the banking collapse here in the USA we had to rethink how we undertook incentive programs, how are they perceived etc – we had to change and I believe we have come out with more creative ideas and programs – whether they are mixture programs such as “concentives” (conference and incentive) or a new way to run a great sales incentive. I have always said to myself “I always want to be out of my comfort zone, if I am not, I am not learning”.

I sometimes wonder though, whether we become complacent with comments such as “well we have a preferred agreement and we have for years”, to me that is not good enough for a client.  I think it is up to a supplier or buyer to find the best supplier for our clients and sometimes that isn’t necessarily the supplier that has been with you the longest or who isn’t pushing new ideas all the time.  My point is that we should have our preferred agreements but new ‘preferred agreements’ may surprise and excite us and our clients…remember when you are finished changing you’re finished.

In conclusion having solid partners and relationships are the cornerstone of our business, but the way that we partner and work together are just as important. Whether our processes, our practices or our relationships I think that its important that we are always open to thinking differently and looking for new and innovative programs for our clients.
